Prestigious Scholarships: The prestigious scholarships described here provide monetary awards and other types of assistance intended to support the graduate and undergraduate education of outstanding students. What these scholarships have in common is that they are recognized as among the most prestigious available and as such can have a dramatic, life-changing impact on the lives of the students who receive them.
New York State Scholarships: New York State offers a number of special scholarships for students who excelled in high school or who may be pursuing particular academic objectives in special programs. Guttman Transfer Scholarship: Guttman Transfer Scholarships offer benefits for outstanding CUNY community college students who transfer to an eligible CUNY senior college (Brooklyn, City, Hunter, Lehman, and Queens). Guttman Scholars receive up to $4,000 paid over two years. CUNY is able to offer these scholarships through an endowment provided by the Stella and Charles Guttman Foundation.
Institutional Scholarships and Grants: Some CUNY colleges offer their students scholarships and grants from their own funds. These awards are in addition to any federal, state, or city scholarships and grants the student may receive.
Corporate & Community Group Scholarships: Outside scholarships are portable, which means the student can use them at the college or university of his or her choice. They’re usually not based on financial need, so they’re especially welcome to students who don’t qualify for much need-based aid, but whose families still struggle to find cash for college. And the awards aren’t just for head-of-the-class students with high SAT scores and a long list of extracurricular activities. There’s also plenty of scholarship money allotted for recognizing outstanding accomplishments in arts, science, writing, community service, and other endeavors. Burger King even sponsors a scholarship that’s not for the highest achievers. It’s designed for students who may be sacrificing academics to work part-time out of financial need.
